Moments

As lovely as Paris
coming lightly from Helen's tent,
salt on his tongue and brow,
these two stallions,
solid as Clydesdales,
in the river sending water
ten feet into the air,
clattering on shallow river rock,
one down river,
on up,
part the waters --
like Moses --
and emerge through reedy mud
reborn.
